On the worktable

I was away for a week, visiting my daughter out west on Galiano Island, so my dolls had to wait for their next steps to completion. After my last Grodnertal doll, I made a cloth doll from a pattern. I tried to get the head to be rounder, and so I made a few heads before I got one that was close enough to round to satisfy me. This meant that more cloth dolls needed to come to life! I also wanted to try a pattern from Sue Farmer that I had used once in the past. This one is stuffed with cotton, a heritage stuffing, but I am not impressed with how lumpy it looks. Still, she is at the stage of getting her face painted, so she gets her crack at Becoming Real very soon. My latest Grodnertal was reproaching me, since she was clad only in her chemise and pantalettes. I grabbed some batiste and whipped up a petticoat and yesterday finished draping her dress pattern. I have cut out her dress using some shot silk taffeta that I bought from Delectable Mountain Cloth in Vermont, years ago, when I attended a workshop with Anna Brahms. Her sleeves will be in the category of Go Big or Go Home. Massive Gigot sleeves from the early Victorian period. Perhaps cartridge pleated skirt, perhaps knife pleats. I will have to see how it looks. Looking forward to spending time in the studio today.
