Oh those Waldorf style dolls!

At the same time I worked on the Snow Queen, I pursued my new enthusiasm for Waldorf-style dolls by looking at many online. The work of Aldegonde Ceelen speaks to me. She is an artist and designer who lives in Amsterdam. I love the fact that her dolls can stand, and that the clothing is very stylish, not too cutsie, as can be seen in some North American dolls. The fabrics she uses and the clothes she designs and knits are perfect for the scale. Altogether, her dolls have great appeal.  Aldegonde, quite naturally, is very reserved about sharing her methods online with the world. I have spent a lot of time and effort thinking about how to get my doll to stand. My first doll has been taken apart twice in the arms and the poor thing has had three hip surgeries. She has also had her hair completely, removed and redone with another material entirely! She is finally able to stand on her own, but she is fiercely pigeon-toed!

She has a huge bum that helps her to sit up by herself. That necessitated an architectural approach to her leggings. Darts and gussets! Her legs are very splayed when she sits. I will correct that in my next doll.
Started a new head yesterday. Got through the first steps, then had to go back to review the tutorials from The Little Doll House and Peggy Nyborg. All in real time. Again! At least this time I could skim through to the part I wanted. A new adventure every day. I'm happy!
